Hey there! I’m Marcie, and I’ve spent years working with AI and large language models (those super smart tools behind things like Siri and customer service bots). But today, I want to talk to you—especially if you’re thinking about starting a YouTube channel.
YouTube can feel like a giant, confusing world. So much advice. So many "experts." And let’s be real—a lot of it is either outdated or just plain overwhelming.
Let’s imagine the YouTube algorithm as a friendly guy named Albert. He’s throwing a big fishing party, and you’re invited!
At this party, everyone’s fishing for views, likes, and subscribers. But here’s the thing: Albert can only help you if you tell him exactly what kind of fish you’re after—in other words, what your channel is all about.
If you just say, “Hey Albert, I like music,” that’s too vague. But if you say, “I’m into West Coast hip hop and I make remix tutorials for Tupac tracks,” Albert can go, “Ohhh, I know exactly who would love that!” and send your videos to the right people.

A big mistake new creators make? Trying to be for everyone.
Don’t start in the YouTube “ocean.” That’s where the big boats (giant creators with big budgets) are. Instead, start in a smaller pond—your niche.
Your niche is the thing you know and love. Maybe it’s gaming tips, DIY crafts, or talking about classic 90s music. Start specific, and grow from there.
This helps Albert understand what you're about—and helps viewers find you faster.
Build Your YouTube "Fishing Gear"
Before you even hit "record," there are a few things you need to get ready. Think of it like packing your tackle box:
Your Channel Brand: What’s your name, tone, and style?
Your Niche: Who are you talking to? What are you about?
Your Keywords: Use simple, clear words Albert understands—just like how AI works in my job.
Your “Fishing License”: This just means verifying your channel properly with YouTube. Super important, and I’ll show you how in the next post.
Don’t worry—you don’t need the fanciest gear. A smartphone and your voice are enough to start.
Here’s the deal: YouTube impressions matter. That means the title, thumbnail, and description of your video help people decide whether or not to click.
And once they click, you want them to stay. That’s your job as a creator—hook them with a great start, then keep them watching.
If your video is clear, fun, and helpful, Albert will notice. He’ll start showing your videos to more people who like that kind of content. That’s how channels grow!
You don’t need to go viral right away. In fact, that can be a problem. If you're not ready for a bunch of new viewers (aka “big fish”), they’ll swim away.
Instead, build a small aquarium—a cozy space for people who really like your content. Then, grow into bigger ones over time.
I’ve seen huge companies mess this up, so we’re going to do it right—using smart tools, clear focus, and simple language Albert (and your viewers!) will love.
Cheers,
Marcie
